Speaking about political process in Syria senseless without opposition list

GENEVA, January 14. /TASS/. There is no progress in what concerns the drawing up a list of Syrian opposition forces, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said on Wednesday answering a question by TASS. "This issue (compilation of a list of terrorists - TASS) was not considered at the Russia-U.S.-UN meeting, since the talks focused on preparations for the inter-Syrian talks scheduled for January 25," Gatilov said. "In this context, the UN Secretary General’s special envoy Staffan de Mistura informed the negotiators on the contacts he had had recently in the region and there was an exchange of opinions on the situation that’s taking shape in the Syrian settlement," he said. "That’’s why all the attention was concentrated on these issues," Gatilov said. "We think the main thing is to draw up of a list of the opposition delegation, which could begin discussions with the government in the process of negotiations, but unfortunately we can't state whatever progress towards it, whatever motion towards forming a broad representative delegation of the opposition, the one that would include people from all the main opposition groupings and forces existing at present," he said. "We think that’s the main issue and it’d difficult to talk about a really all-embracing and transparent process of negotiations without it," Gatilov said. Read more
