Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs visits Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The US Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs Mr Amos J Hochstein paid a visit to Mongolia on April 27-28, 2015 to hold talks on U.S.-Mongolia cooperation on energy issues. This news has been published on the website of the US Embassy in Mongolia. “It is a changed energy world. Countries need to have clear rules that will give investors confidence and they also need to integrate renewables into their energy mix,” he said during an interview to the Eagle TV channel. In separate meetings with the Ministers of Mining, Industry, Environment, and Energy, Special Envoy Hochstein lauded efforts by the Mongolian government to improve the legal framework for the energy sector. Noting the technical help that his bureau has already provided to revamp the Petroleum Law and now the implementing regulations, he offered to expand that assistance to include renewable energy. At a luncheon co-hosted by AmCham (U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Mongolia), Special Envoy Hochstein described the vast changes that have taken place in global energy markets over the last ten years, particularly pointing out that investors need “clear rules of the game” to give them the confidence to commit their capital and that it is becoming increasingly important for nations to effectively integrate renewables into their energy mix.
