Sr. Cleric Lashes Out At Extremists In Muslim World

Tehran, Aug 23, IRNA -- Tehran’s substitute Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani, by referring to the current situation in the Islamic world, said that Muslim Ulama should confront with the extremist Salafi and Tekfiri ideas. Emami Kashani, in the second sermon of the Friday prayers, said these people, (Salafis and Tekfiris) are killing innocent people in Egypt, Syria and Iraq. He continued that Salafis, Tekfiris, and Wahhabis are against Islam and are merely political grouplets fabricated by the British Government. The senior cleric stressed that when Salafism grew in Egypt, a number of people such as President Jamal Abdel Nasser opposed the idea, but the British strengthened them and now it is duty of Muslim Ulama to confront with such deviant ideas./end
