Sr. Religious Leader Says Election Renews Commitment To Islamic Revolution

Tehran, June 15, IRNA - Interim Friday Prayer Leader of Tehran Ayatollah Emami Kashani said on Friday that the nature of elections in Iran differs with other countries, because it is a suitable opportunity to renew commitment to the Islamic Republic. In other countries, they hold elections to bring one political party to power which totally differs with the nature of elections in Iran, he said in his second sermon. The people are determined to pursue the path of late Imam Khomeini as well as martyrs of the Islamic Revolution, said Ayatollah Emami Kashani. On the country's standing in the international community, he said that Iran as a regional power plays a leading role in regional developments and that is why the enemies attaches importance to Iran. ˈIn the countries allied with the global arrogance, the role of people in elections is useless as the main topic is taking office which will be given to one political partyˈ. He said that global arrogance, which controls international organizations, economic and political powers, ignores the role and status of people in elections but in Iran people plays the leading role. ˈIran relies on its people and spares no effort to value its people as well as the countryˈs dignity.ˈ Mass presence of people in the current presidential elections is regarded as a national asset which should be taken into consideration, said Ayatollah Emami Kashani. Terming democratic elections as the power base of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said that the peopleˈs turnout will be the backbone of the Islamic system to play a much better role in the Islamic awakening movements and disappointing the enemies./end
