Sr. Shia Leader In Pakistan Shot Dead

Islamabad, Dec 4, IRNA - A senior Shia leader was shot dead in the Pakistani commercial center of Karachi on Tuesday, police said. The gunmen, riding motorcycles, fired at the car of Allama Deedar Ali Jalbani, deputy secretary general of Majlis-e-Wahda-tul-Muslimeen near the Karachi university. Jalbani and his guard were critically injured and both later died of wounds, doctors said. The MWM also confirmed the incident. The gunmen fled after the attack. No group claimed responsibility. Banned sectarian groups are blamed for such attacks. The MWM strongly condemned the terror attack and demanded the government to arrest the culprits. The incident occurred at a time when religious leaders from all schools of thought agreed on a code of conduct to maintain sectarian harmony./end
