STANDING COMMITTEE HEAD MEETS UNFPA CONSULTANT

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Head of the parliamentary Standing committee on budget Ts.Davaasuren Monday received Ms Katrin Schneider, a consultant to the UNFPA, and other officials in the State House. Ms Schneider said she had met with the parliamentary authorities to exchange views on realizing a "Gender sensitive budget" project. Mr Davaasuren, in turn, said Mongolia is adhering to a policy on trimming organizations’ budgets by 20 percent, but the budgets for health and educational spheres will not be minimized, and pointed out that the country intends to augment the budget for providing gynecological hospital with necessary facilities and equipment to reduce mortality rate of mothers. He also said that the budget for facilities and apparatus of maternity hospitals should not be lowered, and added about plans to focus on keeping capitals for mothers and infants and on correlating the budget with related international projects and programmes. Mongolian parliament is discussing a bill on babysitting to provide labour-age women with job places, he said. At the meeting, the UNFPA delegates also got some information about the budget and shared views on relevant matters. The UNFPA plans to hold training on this June 21 dedicated to members of the Standing committees on social policy, education, culture and science, and on budget.
