Standing committee members work in Armed Forces

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Head and members of the parliamentary Standing committee on security and foreign policy Wednesday worked at the General Headquarters for Mongolian Armed Forces (GHMAF). The GHMAF head Major-General D.Davaa gave them details about the GHMAF’s functions, main objectives and actions of the Armed Forces. After this, the MPs asked about some issues such as a developmental program of the Armed Forces, arms technical renovation, activities of construction and engineering units, a participation of servicemen in the peacekeeping operations. A program has been fully completed on developing the Armed Forces institutions until 2015, and preparation works are being ensured to work out a next long-term programme (2016-2030) to be submitted to the Defense Ministry’s council, said D.Davaa. As of today, some 1,200 troops are serving in the peacekeeping operations, he said. He pointed out that the construction and engineering units have been established in Arkhangai and Gobi-Altai aimags, these units will prepare construction and engineering teams who will serve in the UN peacekeeping operations.
