Sultan Qaboos Due In Tehran

Tehran, Aug 25, IRNA – Sultan of Oman Qaboos bin Said Al Said is due to arrive in Tehran on Sunday heading a high-ranking delegation. This would be the third visit to Iran of Sultan Qaboos. His two first visits took place in 1971 and 2009. The Sultan of Oman would be the first head of state who will meet President Hassan Rohani after his inauguration. While in Tehran, Sultan Qaboos is to hold separate meetings with President Rohani, Head of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. According to informed sources at the Embassy of Oman in Tehran, Sultan Qaboos visit will be more than a normal visit. During the past couple of years, said the sources, Muscat has been acting as a mediator between Tehran and a number of western capitals, stressing that the country has decided to take more effective steps in that regard. As a friendly country to Iran with a long history of cordial relations, Oman takes care of Irans interests in London after Iran-Britain political ties severed in 2011./end
