Swinging with Long History in Korea

Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Swinging is one of folk games that Korean women have played from long ago. According to a historical record, swinging was widely spread throughout the country with its northwestern area as a center in the periods of the Three Kingdoms (early 3rd century B.C.-middle 7th century A.D.) and the swinging contest in Pyongyang was quite well-known. Swinging method could be divided into two kinds, single swing and double swing. And the judgment on the winner depends on the height players swung up. Thanks to the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il, swinging has been developed into a national sports event favored by women in the DPRK and acrobatic event acclaimed even at international acrobatics festivals. It can be well evidenced by the fact that acrobatics "Twin Swing Flight" of the DPRK won the gold prize at the Monte Carlo, Wuhan and Wuqiao international acrobatics festivals. -0-
