Syria Elections, Major Victory For Nation: Iran MP

Tehran, May 19, IRNA – Head of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that holding elections in Syria is a significant victory for the nation. The parliamentarian made the remarks in meetings with ambassadors of Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and Egypt to Tehran. Boroujerdi is the Iranian chairman of the parliamentˈs friendship groups with the four countries. He said Syria will emerge as a country much more powerful than its present status once the crisis ends. Referring to the latest developments in Syria and the strong resistance of its nation and leadership against the extensive war with the terrorist groups and their foreign supporters, he pointed out that the Iranian nation and government have always stood by the Syrian people and will continue their support for them during the reconstruction period. He said the issue of Palestine is the most urgent topic in the Islamic world, stressing that Iran seriously follows up the ideal of the Islamic Revolution which was liberation of the occupied lands. Referring to the importance of Tehran-Tunis parliamentary cooperation, the MP expressed hope that a new chapter will be opened in the two countries bilateral relations once the Tunisian parliament is formed. Describing the situation in Egypt as very sensitive and complicated, he hoped the country would soon witness tranquility and security through materialization of democracy and nationˈs will.
