Talks with Mogherini focused on JCPOA, Syrian crisis

TEHRAN, Oct. 30 (MNA) – Iran’s FM Zarif said EU’s foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini had come to Iran to confer on Syria’s developments, the implementation of the JCPOA and the efforts needed from the Europeans in this regard. According to IRIB, on the sidelines of the first joint conference of Iran’s military, defense and law enforcement representatives, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif referred to the Saturday visit of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, in Tehran, adding “during the meeting I held with her, we conferred on the necessity of fighting terrorism and ways to reach a political solution which is in line with respecting and trusting the demands of the Syrian people.” Mogherini had come to Tehran to exchange views on the developments in Syria and ways to put an end to the conflicts, he added. “We believe that all countries in the world must confront terrorism without any preconditions,” he stressed. Zarif further added that Mogherini had also held a meeting with President Rouhani during which the two sides discussed the implementation of JCPOA and the efforts needed by the European side for a better execution of the deal. “We also talked about the wrong policies that Europe had adopted in the past,” he said. “As a democratic system that has always appeared on the international scene based on the votes and opinions of its people, we believe that this vote is our power, and it was the nation’s support that rendered the sanction regime futile,” Zarif said, adding “we have no concern to discuss our views in other areas, either.”
