Tehran-Baku Ties On Right Track: Envoy

Baku, March 5, IRNA – Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mohsen Pakaeen said Tuesday that relations between Tehran and Baku are on the right track. Pakaeen said that exchange of visits between high-ranking officials from both countries last year indicates the existing trust between Iran and Azerbaijan. Iran provides Azerbaijan with the nearest path to Europe, Asia, the Persian Gulf and even Africa, Pakaeen said, adding that Iran’s path is both economical and safe. On tourism cooperation between Iran and the Azeri republic, the ambassador said that nearly one million Azeri people visit Iran each year, mostly seeking medical treatment. He noted that negotiations are underway with Azeri officials to set a date for the 9th session of Tehran-Baku Joint Economic Commission. Pakaeen noted that deepening ties with neighboring countries and establishment of stability and security in the region are high on the agenda of the foreign policy of new Iranian government under President Hassan Rouhani. He referred to cultural, historical and religious commonalities between the two countries as a base for further promotion of bilateral ties./end
