Tehran Confab, Chance To Boost Unity In Islamic World: Larijani

Tehran, Feb 17, IRNA – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday referred to the upcoming meeting of the parliament speakers of the Islamic states as an opportunity to boost unity among Muslim countries and discuss major issues facing the world of Islam. Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with his visiting Sudanese counterpart Al-Fateh Ezzedin who is in Tehran to attend the 9th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States (PUIC) slated for February 18-19. Larijani said the Tehran conference is a chance to review ways to consolidate unity among Muslim nations. Referring to problems created in the Islamic world by extremist and Takfiri groups, Larijani said their measures have damaged the true image of Islam. He added the global Zionismˈs support for the extremist groups have paved the ground for their terrorist operations. For his part, the Sudanese official appreciated Iranˈs serious efforts to help resolve problems facing the Islamic World. As for Iran-Sudan relations, he said Khartoum welcomes promotion of its trade exchanges with Tehran./end
