Tehran NAM Meet Endangers US, West Interests - MP

Tehran, Aug 22, IRNA – A member of Iranian Parliament (Majlis) said Tuesday that the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meeting in Tehran will endanger the interests of the West, particularly those of the US, in the region. Abdolreza Mesri, spokesman for the Majlis presiding board, told IRNA that the stability of the NAM member states will challenge Washington. Mesri said the NAM member states have always made decisions on different international issues independently. He reiterated that holding the NAM summit meeting in Tehran will be a turning point for the Islamic Iran since the bullying powers, including the US, have made efforts to prevent holding the meeting. The western countries believe that the NAM summit would damage their interests in the region, the MP added. He further announced that the critical situation in Bahrain and the latest developments in Syria will be among issues to be discussed by participants in the NAM meeting slated for August 26-31./end
