Terrorism Never Effective In Toppling Governments: Deputy FM

Tehran, Oct 14, IRNA – Foreign Ministry Deputy for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian said the way out of crisis in Syria is not definitely a military one. He made the remarks in a meeting with the Cypriot Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandros Zinon. He said using terrorism as a tool to topple governments could never be effective because it is the people who are to decide about their destiny. During the meeting, he also reviewed bilateral ties and discussed regional developments with the visiting official. Amirabdollahian noted that supporters of terrorism are in fact after tackling their own domestic problems by staging military shows or carrying out bombardments not fighting terrorism in its true sense. He said fighting terrorism was an issue of global importance. The Iranian official went on to stress that repeating the same mistakes over and over again will not only fail to help establishing regional stability and security but will pave the way for the escalation of terrorist operations. The Cypriot official expressed concern about the growing extremism and terrorism in the region and stressed the need for a true campaign with this dangerous phenomenon. Highlighting Iran's positive and influential role in the region, he said exchange of views with Iran on such topics was to the benefit of the region./end
