Terrorists Cannot Affect Iraqi Nation Resolve To Establish Democracy: Envoy

Tehran, June 25, IRNA – Terrorists cannot affect the Iraqi nationˈs resolve to establish democracy, Iraqi Ambassador to Tehran Mohammad Majid al-Sheikh said on Tuesday. He made the remarks at a joint press conference with Syrian Ambassador to Iran Adnan Mahmouda held at Iran Cultural and Press institute. Al-Sheikh noted that many Iranians have volunteered to go to Iraq to sacrifice their lives for defending the holy sites against the raids of Daesh (the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) terrorist group. The envoy added that all the Iraqi Sunnis, Shias and Kurds have been united to defend their country and holy sites. Iraq has security agreement with the US, and they (Americans) have to stick to their obligations, he noted. Referring to the propaganda campaign against the Iraq government, al-Sheikh noted that the security satuation in Iraq is improving. Terrorists are angry with democratic process in Iraq and that is the reason why they attacked parts of the country after the parliamentary elections there, he underlined. The envoy underscored that the Iraqi nation will do its best to thwart menace of terrorism and no power can withstand the Iraqi national resolve to establish democracy. The ambassador thanked all those countries that have helped Iraq establish democracy including Iran. Some rural areas of Iraq have come under attack by the terrorist group of Daesh.
