Terrorists Seek US Interests In Syria : Firouzabadi

Tehran, April 30, IRNA - Chief of Staff of Iranˈs Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said here Monday that terrorist groups in Syria are trying to safeguard US interests. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony marking national Teachersˈ Day, May 2, Firouzabadi said the terrorists will oppose US interests if one day they become powerful. He then described the terrorists as daggers that will hit the West and the arrogant powers in future, stressing that the Syrian nation will never be defeated by terrorists. Referring to the presence of terrorist groups in Syria, Firouzabadi said this is a game played by the West in order to prepare the ground for genocide of Muslims by al-Qaeda. Asked to comment on the US military drills in the Persian Gulf, he noted that such exercises are only aimed at waging psychological wars. The presence of the US forces in the Persian Gulf region goes back to three decades ago and is not a new phenomenon, said Firouzabadi. Pointing to the US failure in bringing about security to the region, he said Washington is trying to defend capitalism and support global Zionism He then referred to the Syrian terrorists as agents of the arrogant powers serving the interests of Washington and Tel Aviv./end
