T.GANDI AT UN SESSION ON STATUS OF WOMEN

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Minister of Labor and Social Welfare T.Gandi is participating in the 56th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. It started on February 27 in the UN Headquarters, New York city, USA. At the session's high-level meeting she gave a speech "The empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges", to give a report on Mongolian government's measures for improving status of women and their economic participation and on challenges facing rural women. A Head of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Milos Koterec, and the Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women Ms. Michelle Bachelet addressed the session's opening. Ms. Bachelet has underlined an importance of women's participation in the sustainable development of countries, and mentioned about importance of protecting rights of rural women. She has said a high-level meeting "Women and sustainable development" will be co-organized in June of 2012 together with the government of Brazil. The session will last until March 9. B.Khuder
