Thai Foreign Minister to attend 49th AMM in Lao

BANGKOK, July 23 (TNA) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Don Pramudwinai will participate in the 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (49th AMM) and related meetings between July 23-26 in Vientiane, Lao PDR. According to the statement on Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website, Mr Don and his ASEAN counterparts will discuss ways to strengthen the ASEAN Community and to enhance peace and security in Southeast Asia and the region through confidence building and cooperation measures including cooperation in border management. The meeting will also discuss the complementarities between the ASEAN Vision 2025 and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, where Thailand has been assigned to be the ASEAN Coordinator. In addition to the annual AMM, Mr Don will attend the AMM Interface with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR). There will also be meetings between ASEAN Foreign Ministers and the Foreign Ministers of ASEAN Dialogue Partners (ASEAN+1), ASEAN Plus Three, East Asia Summit (EAS), and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF). The agenda of the related meetings will include taking stock of the progress made in the overall dialogue relations, and its future direction, as well as exploring ways to strengthen each meeting framework. As country coordinator for ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations, Mr Don will co-chair the ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting which aims to take the ASEAN-EU relations to a higher plane. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers and the Foreign Ministers of ASEAN Dialogue Partners and ARF Foreign Ministers will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest and concern, as well as promote preventive diplomacy including in the area of non-traditional security challenges. Mr Don will also hand over Thailand’s Instrument of Ratification of the ASEAN Convention Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children to the ASEAN Secretary-General. (TNA)
