Thai Minister says foreigners understand Thailand’s situation well

BANGKOK, February 15 (TNA) - Rejecting rebukes by both the European Union (EU) and the Human Rights Watch, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Mom Luang Panadda Diskul said Sunday foreigners, especially foreign diplomats whom he had met understood Thailand’s current political situation well. Mom Luang Panadda said the foreigners had also given the Thai government morale support. His remarks were made after the EU delegations in Thailand issued a statement expressing concerns over the use of military courts on trial with civilian suspects and urging the caretaker military government to limit trials conducted by military courts. In the case of the Human Rights Watch, it issued a statement urging National Legislative Assembly members to reject a draft amendment on military court which would empower the military to detain civilian suspects for a maximum of 84 days without seeking court approval. Mom Luang Panadda said the two agencies were just giving their personal opinions while he also stressed the stance of Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha that Thailand would not put itself in conflict with anybody. Mom Luang Panadda said he recently held talks with Indonesian ambassador to Thailand and the latter believed the Thai government could bring peace while every party would be satisfied with the situation in the kingdom.
