Thai PM to promote Sufficiency Economy Principle at UNGA71

BANGKOK, Sept 19 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha will propose the Sufficiency Economy Principle, advised by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, as an approach to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development while he delivers a speech at the 71st UN General Assembly (UNGA71) in New York later this week. Deputy Government Spokesman Major General Werachon Sukhondhapatipak told journalists of the update on Monday, acknowledging that the Thai prime minister will attend the UNGA71 at the UN Headquarters, scheduled for September 20-23, as the current Chair of the Group of 77 (G77) world developing nations. The Deputy spokesman stated that in his speech, the Thai prime minister will identify how the Sufficiency Economy Principle is envisioned to help meet the mutual sustainable goals internationally. Besides, Thailand will organize an exhibition on the Sufficiency Economy Principle at the UN Headquarters to provide interested parties with more detailed information on the royally-advised principle. According to the deputy spokesman, the agenda of the UNGA71 also include health issues for the sake of human security, covering proper medication and the prevention of patients' resistance to medicines, especially antibiotics, and a review of progress in the implementation of the Paris Agreement 2015 to combat the escalating climate change or the global warming problem. On the occasion, the deputy spokesman noted, the Thai prime minister will also use the upcoming UN stage to brief his government's progress on the roadmap on national reforms toward a new general election, set by next year, after the country's new Constitution draft was endorsed by the majority of voters last month.
