Thai PM satisfied with Bhutan visit

BANGKOK, July 20 (TNA) – Thai Prime Minister is satisfied with his visit to Bhutan and the two countries strengthen cooperation in various fields ahead of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year. Gen Prayut said that during his talk his Bhutanese counterpart Dasho Tshering Tobgay yesterday, they discussed about human resource development and adding value to farm products. To improve public health service, Thailand suggested Bhutan to adopt the model of Thai village health volunteers system to take care of sick people in their villages before transferring patients to further treatment at hospital. Bhutan also gives importance to education. Thailand proposed the distance learning through radio to people in remote areas on high lands, that will cost less than the investment in the digital system. They touched on the increase of trade and investment, which is driven by the mechanism of Thai –Bhutanese Joint committee. Next year, the two countries will hold celebrations to mark 30 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Before returning to Thailand today, Gen Prayut and his spouse lighted traditional lantern at the National Memorial Chorten, and visited Bhutan’s shop for One Gewog One Product (OGOP). He also met Thai volunteers under the “Friends from Thailand” project, who have worked as teachers in Bhutan in various fields such as designing, information technology, sculpture. Bhutanese prime minister hosted a private lunch at his residence for the Thai leader before his return to Thailand. He is scheduled to arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 9pm. (TNA)
