Thailand is ready to support Myanmar’s fisheries, Cambodia’s health services

BANGKOK, Oct 20 (TNA) -- The spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry said Thailand was ready to help Myanmar restore shrimp farming in Rakhine and improve medical services in Cambodia’s Koh Kong province. Busadee Santipitaks, the spokesperson and director-general of the Information Department, said Thailand was ready to respond Myanmar’s request for the rehabilitation of its shrimp farming in the Rakhine State. According to her, the support has actually happened in the forms of bilateral cooperation and trilateral one including Japan. There has been training on mariculture for Myanmar fishery officials. The Thai-Myanmar sea shrimp farming demonstration center in Chittaway will be renovated to facilitate the training. “Thailand hopes that the cooperation will increase the income of local farmers and strengthen the economy of Rakhine,” the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry said. Besides, she said, authorities of Cambodia’s Koh Kong province sought Thailand’s support to improve Koh Kong Hospital. Thai authorities inspected the facility on Sept 27-28 and found it was in a poor condition and did not have emergency and intensive care units. The Thai parties including the Thai Red Cross Society, the Thailand International Cooperation Agency and the health office in Trat province agreed that a new hospital building should be constructed to house emergency and intensive care units. Besides, its storage room and personnel should be improved and new equipment should be acquired, Ms Busadee said. (TNA)
