Thailand's Democrat Party to help solve political crisis

BANGKOK, April 6 (TNA) - Thailand’s major opposition Democrat Party is confident that it could help solve political crisis prevailing in the country, said the party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva on Sunday. Speaking to journalists as his party celebrates 68th anniversary, Mr. Abhisit, a former prime minister, cited a survey in which people are worried over a civil war which could erupt in the country, saying that the Democrat Party had helped solved political crisis in the past and is confident that it could help play a role again by “adhering to ideology” which is the core to regain the party’s popularity. He urged those who are now in power to also help find the way out of the crisis through any means including negotiations between rival political groups. Fighting between members of rival political groups cannot solve the problem, Mr. Abhisit said. The Democrat Party has prepared a blue-print on solving the problem which also focuses on reform and they could “answer to every crux” facing the country. Simultaneously, Anuthin Charnvirakul, leader of Bhumjaithai Party, said the only way to solve political crisis is for the people who are owner of the country to “decide what they want”. “As long as the country is governed by democratic system, solving the problem must be conducted through a democracy way,” said Mr. Anuthin, adding that the Election Commission and the caretaker government should not waste any more time and “let the people decide” on the direction of the country. Mr. Anuthin said he disagreed with remarks made by Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), on declaring sovereignty and form a new government after toppling the current caretaker government. This crisis will never end because the other rival faction might do the same, said Mr. Anuthin. (TNA)
