Thailand's NCPO to invite editors for second round meeting

BANGKOK, November 16 (TNA) - The problem of Thai PBS television station saga is likely to mushroom as Colonel Winthai Suvaree, a spokesman of Thailand's National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), said Saturday that the junta is prepared to clear doubts with media associations. Col. Winthai said soldiers went to the Thai PBS television station just to ask its executives to refrain from presenting news which could create conflicts or divisiveness in the country and they had asked the executives to help move the country forward. He said no law was threatened against the television station and “(we’re) ready to meet with media associations in order to reach a better understanding.” Reliable sources said a committee monitoring news is planning to invite representatives of media associations for talks which would take place for the second time after the military seized power in the May 22 bloodless coup. The visit to Thai PBS television station by soldiers was made after the television station presented a programme in which the anchorwoman asked the caretaker government to listen to people’s voice before embarking on national reform. The anchorwoman is now removed from the programme. Stressing that NCPO respects everybody and works with the media “like a family member”, Col. Winthai said worries by media associations could be settled through talks between both sides. (TNA)
