Top diplomat stresses Russia, Cuba agree on various aspects of global issues

MOSCOW, May 27. /TASS/. Havana and Moscow share a similar stance on many global policy issues, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parilla told reporters at a news conference following talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. "Russia and Cuba have a high degree of coincidence in their vision of various aspects of the international agenda, particularly in terms of defending peace and the role of international organizations," the diplomat stressed. "I would like to note that relations between Russia and Cuba are excellent. They have a historical basis and high priority. They are based on the traditional bonds of friendship between the two countries’ peoples," he went on to say. "The exchanges and political dialogue that we maintain are fruitful and useful. They make it possible to give a fresh impetus to bilateral relations in all areas of mutual interest and benefit." Cuba’s top diplomat pointed to Russia’s role in protecting international law and security and thanked Moscow for supporting Havana in the fight against "the economic, trade and financial blockade against Cuba imposed by the US." "The blockade of Cuba is not only a chief obstacle to our development. It is also an obstacle to the development of dialogue between our countries and with our international partners, especially in the financial sphere," he explained. "This is an illegal policy that violates international law, which is rooted in the Cold War. It also violates Cuba’s sovereignty and independence." Read more
