Top Kashmiri Leaders Flay OIC For Silence Over Myanmar Muslims

Srinagar, India, March 27, IRNA -- Two top Kashmiri leaders on Wednesday flayed the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for what they described as its silence over the killing of Muslims in Myanmar. Syed Ali Shah Geelani said that the role of the OIC was “disappointing,” while Mirwiaz Umar Farooq termed its silence as “highly regrettable.” “The systematic killing of Muslims in Myanmar and burning their homes and mosques amount to genocide,” the Mirwaiz said in a statement. “Members of the Muslim community in that country are being massacred in ethnic violence.” “The Myanmar government is guilty of criminal negligence in failing to ensure the safety of life and property of Muslims in the country,” he said. “The silence of the OIC and the rest of the international community over the mass killing of Muslims is highly regrettable, and could lead to the total extermination of the community,” he said. Meanwhile, Syed Ali Shah Geelani in a separate statement said that the OIC had limited itself to merely issuing statements. “The silence of the OIC over Myanmar Muslims is disappointing. At the behest of the Myanmar government, communal Buddhists have turned life into hell for the Muslim community. And by refusing refuge to the fleeing Muslims, Bangladesh has shown its pro-Brahman policy,” he said./end
