Top S.Korean Official To Visit Iran To Discuss Release Of S.Korean Citizen

Tehran, Nov 18, IRNA – A South Korean official announced on Sunday that a top official from foreign ministry is to visit Tehran in the near future to discuss release of a South Korean national who is in custody of Iran’s judicial system over one year on espionage charges. According to South Korean news agency, the official said South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Lee Kyung-soo is to visit Iran in late November to secure release of the South Korean national in Tehran. This is the first visit of a South Korean deputy foreign minister to Tehran since 2009 and it seems that Iran has approved South Korean officialˈs request for visiting Tehran. The South Korean deputy foreign minister is expected to confer with Iranian officials on release of their imprisoned national. The South Korean citizen was arrested on charges of espionage and taking films from sensitive border regions and was subsequently tried and sentenced to seven years in prison. However. the court of appeal is to study the verdict in the near future./end
