TRNC parliament's extraordinary meeting lasting for 22 hours

LEFKOSA (A.A) - November 2, 2011 - An extraordinary meeting of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) parliamentary general assembly has been continuing for 22 hours. TRNC parliament started to debate draft laws on social security opposed by labor unions at an extraordinary meeting at 10.50 a.m. on Tuesday and the meeting still continues. Communal Democracy Party (TDP) chairman Mehmet Cakici made a speech for 13 hours at the parliament to prevent draft laws from being passed by the parliament. With his performance, Cakici broke a record for the longest speech in the TRNC parliament. Cakici said that the government was trying to impose a package of laws that was opposed by the Turkish Cypriot people, stating that the government should take notice of reactions of the people.
