Turkey is ‘main loser’ in Syria conflict: former IRGC chief

TEHRAN, Sept. 24 (MNA) – Yahya Rahim Safavi, the former commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, said on Monday that Turkey is the “main loser” of developments in Syria. So far, the Turkish people have held several demonstrations denouncing the Recep Tayyip Erdogan government’s policy toward Syria. Turkey along with Qatar and Saudi Arabia have openly called for the ouster of the Syrian government and have expressed support for Syrian rebel groups. “The Turkish people are Muslim, and normally, they oppose Turkey’s moves against Syria,” Safavi told Basiji scholars in the city of Ardabil, in the northwestern Iranian Ardabil Province. He said that Turkey, with a financial support from Arab countries, has turned into a “puppet” of outsiders in the enmity toward the Syrian government. “However, Turkey is the main loser of the battleground,” noted the senior military advisor to the Supreme Leader.
