Turkey supports decisions of Arab League, foreign minister says

CAIRO (A.A) - November 27, 2011 - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Sunday that Turkey and Arab League could not remain silent regarding developments in Syria where civilians were killed. Turkey supported decisions and measures taken by the Arab League regarding Syria, Davutoglu told reporters after the meeting foreign ministers of Arab League in Egyptian capital of Cairo. There was a full consensus between Arab League and Turkey, he said. Asked what attitude Turkey would assume, if the league takes the matter to the UN, Davutoglu said Turkey would back decisions of Arab League. Syrian issue was a common regional issue, he said. Davutoglu said they were trying to prevent more bloodshed there, and there was a sound cooperation between Turkey and the Arab League on the issue.  Arab League and Turkey gave a message that they were beside Syrian people, he said. Davutoglu said Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called ministers on the phone to discuss the matter after the meeting of Arab League, stating that measures against Syria would be clear in the coming days. "We hope that Syrian government will comprehend our message and the issue will be solved," he said. Davutoglu said they were in contact with Arab League officials. Prior to the Arab League meeting, Davutoglu separately met with Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi and Qatar's Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jasim bin Jabir Al Thani.
