Turkey's election board approves candidacy of some independent politicians

ANKARA - 22.04.2011 - Turkey's top election body gave green light to some independent candidates who were earlier barred from running in the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 12.
Higher Board of Elections, or YSK, approved candidacy of 7 out of 12 independent politicians.
After a day-long evaluation of appeals on Thursday, YSK said that Harun Ozcan, Mehmet Hatip Dicle, Leyla Zana, Mehmet Salih Yıldız, Ertugrul Kurkcu, Gulten Kisanak and Sebahat Tuncel were eligible to run for members of parliament.
YSK said appeals by Isa Gurbuz, Cicek Otlu and Serafettin Efe were rejected. YSK will continue to evaluate files of Abdullah Kizilay and Nezir Sincar.
Earlier this week, YSK had cancelled candidacy of 12 independent politicians due to their previous criminal records.
