Turkish deputy premier says Turkey has a new concept to counter terrorism

ANKARA (A.A) - 10.05.2011 - Turkey's state minister and deputy prime minister said on Monday that Turkey had a new concept to combat terrorism.
Bulent Arinc said Turkey's concept to counter terrorism aimed to turn the terrorist organization into a passive one that could not stage any attacks.
"Secondly, we aim to make the terrorist organization lay down its arms," Arinc told representatives of several local TV channels in Ankara.
Arinc said the government thought to remove the reasons that caused terrorism and to take political, social and economic measures to that end.
The minister referred to an amendment to a regulation the Justice & Development (AK) party had made in November 2009 that allowed broadcast in languages other than Turkish 24 hours a day and lifted subtitle obligation, and said today, 18 radio and TV channels had the right to broadcast in Kurdish, Armenian and Arabic.
Before the AK Party government, radio channels could broadcast in other languages for only an hour a day, and TV channels for only 45 minutes, and they had to put subtitles and read news stories in Turkish.
"There are 18 new radio and TV channels that we have given a license," Arinc also said.
Arinc said Turkey was cooperating with not only Iraq's north and the central government of Iraq but also all other regional countries to eradicate terrorist attacks, including the United States and Iran.
"We want the other countries not to allow any acts of terror within their territories, the central government of Iraq promises us, however it does not have so many capabilities," he said.
Arinc said Turkey was in communication with the regional administration in north of Iraq not to allow any terrorists who could harm Turkey's security.
