Turkish FM calls for promotion of ties with Iran

Beijing, Nov 1, IRNA – Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu here on Friday called for further expansion of ties with Iran. He made the remarks in a meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the sideline of the fourth Foreign Ministerial Conference of the Istanbul Process on Afghanistan held Friday with participation of 46 countries. Referring to the friendly relations between the two countries, he said they could well enhance cooperation given the great existing potential. The two foreign ministers further urged mutual contacts to exchange views on ways of tackling terrorism in the region. They also reviewed the process of nuclear negotiations between Iran and G5+1. Çavuşoğlu expressed happiness over the fact that talks were progressing well. The Iranian foreign minister and his Turkish counterpart also reviewed regional developments and other issues of mutual interest. Istanbul Process is an agreement reached in 2011 by 14 regional and 16 extra- regional countries, as well as 12 international organizations. Istanbul Process has had 3 meetings so far, two of which were held in Turkey and one in Tajikistan. Beijing is the host of the fourth meeting./end
