Turkish PM Davutoglu calls on municipalities to control protests

Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 27 By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend: Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu urged the heads of municipalities in Turkish cities to immediately intervene and cease protests in case if the participants use Molotov cocktails, Hurriyet newspaper reported Feb. 27. The statement was made after the Turkish parliament adopted a number of provisions of the reforms package aimed at ensuring the safety of the country’s population. Davutoglu said the municipalities must demonstrate their strength to those who want to sow chaos and inflict damage to the citizens’ properties. Earlier, Turkey’s parliament adopted 26 provisions of the reforms package aimed at ensuring the population’s safety. Under the adopted provisions, in case of necessity, the heads of municipalities have a right to order the Turkish gendarmerie forces to intervene in the protests. Davutoglu said in October 2014 that Turkey will hold reforms to ensure the public safety. Edited by SI --- Follow the author on Twitter: @rhafizoglu Follow us on Twitter @TRENDNewsAgency
