Turkish President Gul: regime in Libya was impossible to continue ruling

ANKARA (A.A) – August 28, 2011 – Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that the regime in Libya was impossible to continue ruling.
In an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency, Gul said that a country, which had 2,000 km coast in the Mediterranean, world's richest oil reserve and low population, could have been the most prosperous country of the world if it had been ruled good.
Libya's survival for such a long time under a single person's authoritarian rule for years has already been unbelievable, said Gul, adding that it was not possible to understand how it continued such a long time.
We hope there will be no inner clashes and waste of energy while establishing the new Libya, said Gul, adding that Turkey wanted to actively lead such a process in Libya.
Noting that he and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan received Mahmoud Jibril, chairman of the executive board of the Libyan National Transitional Council, in Turkey recently, Gul said that also Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu had been in Benghazi a few days ago.
We are extending the highest assistance to Libyan people to help them reconstruct their country in political and financial aspects, Gul said.
In efforts to help Libyan people, Turkey has given the National Transitional Council $300 million, two-thirds as a loan and one-third as a grant.
