Turkish president on making of a new constitution in Turkey

ISTANBUL (A.A) - August 28, 2011 - Turkish President Abdullah Gul has underlined that the process of making a new constitution in Turkey should involve all segments of the society in their contribution and opinion.
"It is important to secure that everyone sees it as their proper constitution and that everyone make a contribution to it," Gul told the Anadolu Agency in an exclusive interview.
Gul expressed confidence that Turkey had reached a "great consensus" that the country should make a new constitution in the shortest possible time, adding that the Turkish parliament should grasp "this historic opportunity to write for the first time a constitution with on its own will."
The Turkish president, however, expressed concern that if efforts for a new constitution failed, that could have only been caused by "setbacks in methodology."
"Great attention must be paid to the methodology. Sometimes methods could supersede the essence," Gul said.
"It is high time to make necessary arrangements in the constitution with an eye to the necessities of the future," Gul said.
