Turkish team's efforts in Somalia suspended due to security reasons


MOGADISHU (A.A) – August 11, 2011 – Turkish relief team's entrance to shelters are being suspended due to security reasons in capital Mogadishu of Somalia which is severely suffering from famine.
Delegations of Turkish Red Crescent and Turkish International Cooperation & Development Agency (TIKA), who will distribute the assistance packages in shelters, were not allowed to depart from presidential guest house, where they have been hosted, due to security reasons.
Officials said that they did not have soldiers who would protect the delegation in shelters.
Turkey has launched a massive aid campaign to help efforts to fight hunger in eastern Africa where the World Food Program estimates that 10 million people already need humanitarian aid.
The U.N. Children's Fund estimates that more than 2 million children are malnourished and in need of lifesaving action in the region.
