Turkmenistan proposes Non-Aligned Movement to consolidate positions on energy

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Aug 31 /Trend H.Hasanov/ Turkmenistan considers it expedient to organize a multilateral dialogue of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) States on the most pressing issues of social and economic development, including energy issues, President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov said, speaking in Tehran at the 16th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), local media reported on Friday. Turkmenistan initiated the creation of a new international legal mechanism aimed at ensuring stable and reliable supply of energy to world markets. The UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution on the issue in December 2008. "We call on all NAM States from the consolidated positions in the UN to propose the creation of an international expert group on the development of a multilateral instrument in the field of energy security in the development of this process," the Turkmen leader said. Ashgabat also previously suggested strengthening energy dialogue in the framework of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), to formulate mechanisms of multilateral consultations on political, financial, economic, technological and environmental aspects of construction and operation of multiple pipeline infrastructure. Turkmenistan periodically claims the right of direct access to Europe. In late 2009, the country gained access to the new alternative due to launch of a pipeline to China. Project of Trans-Caspian gas pipeline and then transit through the territory of Azerbaijan and Turkey is associatedwith access to the European market. Do you have any feedback?
