UAE Claim Over Three Iranian Islands In PG Devoid Of Legality, Historical Authenticity

Tehran, Nov 17, IRNA – Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Saturday that UAE claim over the three Iranian islands of Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa in the Persian Gulf is futile political propaganda, lacking any legal value and historical authenticity. He made the remarks in reaction to the recent statement made by United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed an-Nahyan who repeated a claim over the islands again in a joint news conference with his German counterpart, Guido Westerwelle. “As historical documents show, three islands of Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa belong to Iran, and his remarks over the islands have no historical basis,” Boroujerdi said. When Iran possessed the islands, no country in the name of UAE existed in the region’s political geography, he said. Boroujerdi underlined that the islands belong and will belong to Iran and Iran’s historical ownership of the islands is an inalienable reality. “We recommend the UAE in a friendly way not to pursue the unfruitful policy and if it has any ambiguity and misunderstanding about the issue, it can address them in talks with the Iranian officials,” he said. The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the three islands as integral part of Iranian territory and has on several occasions voiced readiness to help the UAE government to remove such a misunderstanding./end
