UAE delegation discusses means of cooperation with international officials in New York

ABU DHABI, 4th October 2015 (WAM) --- The UAE delegation to the United Nations in New York has held a series of diplomatic and official meetings with international officials representing development and humanitarian agencies and donor organisations, to discuss opportunities for cooperation and partnership in the field of humanitarian aid and sustainable development. Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, and Head of the UAE Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid, met with Lilianne Ploumen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands, to discuss developments in sustainable development projects and future plans. She also met with Manuel Sager, Director-General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, to exchange proposals about expected future challenges resulting from conflicts and disputes affecting people’s lives around the world. In the same context, Al Qasimi met with Melinda Gates, co-founder and co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to discuss the prospects of joint cooperation and interest in launching global development projects that serve humanity. In another meeting, Sheikha Lubna and Christos Stylianides, EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, discussed the most important developments and efforts to provide support to the needy and those affected by existing crises and conflicts, especially in the Middle East. The meetings coincided with the conclusion of the delegation's participation in the Sustainable Development World Summit 2015 organised by the United Nations General Assembly in New York. At the summit, the UAE highlighted its tireless efforts in implementing the millennium development goals (MDGs), and its contributions to sustainable development in various areas.
