U.A.E. highlights role of family at Human Rights panel

GENEVA: Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, U.A.E. Permanent Representative to United Nations and Other International Organisations in Geneva, has underlined that the family is a cornerstone of the community in terms of values, love of country and protection. Delivering the U.A.E.'s speech at the seminar organised by the Human Rights Council on protection of the family, Al Zaabi welcomed the participation of experts, noting that the development of family to keep pace with modernity does not mean to demolish and substitute traditional modes with new ones, decrying plans of some streams to change status quo under the pretext of human rights. He called on the council to reject such pleas in the name of human rights or global trends, urging the rights body not to open privacies of certain communities. Al Zaabi added that the U.A.E.'s Arab and Muslim culture protects families and provides welfare to them, citing that the U.A.E. has enacted laws, drawn policies and development plans to protect families and achieve sustainable development. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/international/1395269667053.html
