UAE permanent representative addresses HRC's special session on Boko Haram abuses

GENEVA, 2nd April, 2015 (WAM) -- The UAE Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva, Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, yesterday delivered a speech before a special session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC), held in the light of terrorist attacks and human rights abuses by Boko Haram. Al Zaabi noted that the special session was being held in the alarming context of terrorist acts and human rights violations perpetrated by Boko Haram. "The terrorists considered that women and girls had no right to education, which led to attacks on schools. Those terrible acts were abject and unprecedented," he added. Al Zaabi further said terrorism was an ongoing threat not only in Africa, but throughout the world. "The international community should join forces and support the multinational task force of the African Union, including forces from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Benin," he added. – Emirates News Agency, WAM –
