Ukraine President Sends Letter to Abe

Moscow, March 13 (Jiji Press)--Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has sent a personal letter to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to mark the fifth anniversary of the triple meltdown at Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s <9501> disaster-crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant. Ukraine, for its part, will observe the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl meltdown in April. It should be Ukrainians that can share Japanese people's pain caused by the March 2011 accident, the presidential letter said. The letter also said Ukraine appreciates Japan's support for turning the Chernobyl nuclear plant into a safe facility and is ready to share its relevant experience with Japan. Poroshenko is scheduled to visit Japan in mid-April. END
