UN DPI Baku Office “interested” in strengthening cooperation with AzerTAc

Baku, October 29, AzerTAc Head of the United Nations Department of Pubic Information Maher Nassir has expressed UN DPI Baku Office`s interest in strengthening cooperation with the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency as he met with Director General Aslan Aslanov. Mr. Aslanov said Azerbaijan had turned into a country with a solid reputation over the world. “This created opportunity for AzerTAc to become an active member of world leading media organizations,” he said. Mr. Aslanov provided an insight into AzerTAc`s history and achievements, as well as the agency`s role in ensuring the government`s information policy. “AzerTAc is one of the most active members of the leading organizations shaping the world`s information policy. AzerTAc is a member of the Organization of Asia Pacific News Agencies, European Agencies of News Alliances and News Agencies World Congress.” He said Baku would host the 16th General Assembly of OANA and the 5th News Agencies World Congress in 2016, adding AzerTAc would chair these two organizations for three years. Mr. Aslanov said modern word steadily changed and high technologies influenced to all spheres of our life. He stressed the importance of keeping up with the modern tendencies, adding AzerTAc widely used with the opportunities of the social media. “Azerbaijan was elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, gaining 155 votes from the UN member countries, and the country chairs the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.” He highlighted AzerTAc`s close relations with the UN bodies acting in Azerbaijan. He said AzerTAc jointly with UNESCO Moscow bureau hosted a workshop titled “Modern climate changes and Azerbaijan”. “The negotiations are underway to host joint event with the UNESCO, as well as other bodies of the Organization.” Maher Nassir, in turn, praised Azerbaijan`s rapid development, adding he visited Baku to join the First Global Forum on Youth Policies. He said work with youth, as well as increasing the role of youth in society is among priorities of the UN.
