UN to help implementing Iran nuclear agreement - Ban Ki-moon

UNITED NATIONS, April 17. /TASS/. The United Nations will do its utmost to help implement the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program due to be signed before June 30, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told the audience in the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The UN chief hailed the framework agreements reached in Lausanne earlier this month between the six world powers (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) and Iran. Ban Ki-moon noted that the provisions of the future accord agreed in Switzerland were aimed at scaling down Tehran’s nuclear program and removing sanctions. "Once a comprehensive agreement is finalized by the end of June, the United Nations will do our best to help [the] implementation process, including stringent monitoring and verification by the International Atomic Energy Agency," he said. The UN chief voiced confidence that the final settlement of the situation around Tehran’s nuclear program would open up new opportunities for the efforts to respond to many other serious security challenges in the region. Another round of talks between Iran and the six world powers ended in Lausanne on April 2. The parameters for a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran’s nuclear program to be adopted by June 30 were agreed. All political and economic sanctions against Iran will be lifted once the document is implemented. The parameters of the future agreement published by the U.S. Department of State envisage that it will be endorsed by the Security Council resolution calling for the implementation of all accords.
