"UN SECRETARY-GENERAL APPRECIATES MONGOLIAN PEACEKEEPERS' DEEDS"

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ This was said by Mr Hervй Ladsous, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, at a meeting with Mongolian President Ts.Elbegdorj on Thursday. The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's words of the high appreciation were in the note Mr Ladsous passed to the President. The guest also said the UN is calling on its Member-States to prepare troops for a rapid deployment. In response, the President said Mongolia backed a decision of the UN to prepare troops for the deployment and considered as necessity to formulate appropriate criteria for establishing and maintaining of such a deployment and elaborate reimbursement systems for TCC and ensure a clarity of levels of the readiness and composition of troops. He also said an issue of employing a Mongolian military officer at the administrative level of the UN peacekeeping operations has been realized, and that Mongolian Brigadier-General has started serving as an area’s commander for peacekeeping forces. He expressed a satisfaction with receiving an invitation to nominate its officers to the posts of regional commanders of UN peacekeeping operations in West Sahara and Sudan’s Abei State and of the Deputy Commander of UN Peacekeeping Operations. "Mongolia supports UN initiative on the important role of women in maintaining international peace and security. We are glad that a Mongolian female soldier was selected the military officer, seconded to the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, and started the duties" Mr Elbegdorj said. After this Mr Ladsous highly spoke skills and operations of the Mongolian peacekeepers. The sides also exchanged views on the "Khaan Quest" annual international military exercises and on international issues.
