UN Security Council unanimously adopts resolution in support of deal on Iran’s nuclear program

UNITED NATIONS, July 20. /TASS/. The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted Monday the resolution in support of the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. According to the document, all international sanctions will be lifted from Iran in 10 years if Tehran fulfills all conditions agreed with P5+1 group of international mediators (five permanent members of UN Security Council and Germany) in Vienna. The resolution also envisages easing sanctions against Iran after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) submits a report confirming Tehran’s compliance with the terms of the deal. The UN Security Council also reinforced the mechanism of returning all restrictions in case Iran violates the terms of the agreement. Earlier, five permanent members of UN Security Council - Russia, US, UK, France and China - agreed to return to the issue in 2025 and consider introducing another resolution to employ the same mechanism for five more years, US Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman said on July 16. "The P5 members have made a political decision and conveyed to the secretary-general of the United Nations that at the end of the termination of the 10-year UNSCR [United Nations Security Council Resolution] that they will introduce an additional resolution to put in place the same mechanism for an additional five years," Sherman said.
