UN Special Envoy To Attend Rohani Inauguration

New York, Aug 3, IRNA – A spokesman of the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said that a special envoy of the UN chief would attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Hassan Rohani slated for August 4. Speaking to IRNA exclusively, Martin Nesirky said that special envoy of the UN secretary general for Afghanistan Jan Kubis is to take part in the inauguration ceremony which is to be held at the Iranian parliament (Majlis) on Sunday. According to Nesirky, after the ceremony, the UN chief would send a message to new president of Iran. The UN secretary general would express, in the message, his willingness for cooperating with the new Iranian president aimed at promoting bilateral ties between Tehran and the UN as well as further cooperation between Tehran and the international community, Nesirky added. He stressed that the secretary-general is also willing to hold a meeting with the new president of Iran when he visits New York to attend the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly in September. Nesirky said the general assembly session would also be a proper chance for Rohani to hold separate meetings with other heads of state to discuss his viewpoints on major international issues./end
