UNDP TO HOLD DEVELOPMENT DIALOGUE 6: HARNESSING CULTURE FOR DEVELOPMENT IN MONGOLIA

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ This action will run on Friday at the UN House in the UB city. It is co-organized with the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism; the Embassy of the UK will participate as a donor. A number of relevant issues will be discussed at the dialogue such as ways of creating a sense of community in Mongolia, unique features of Mongolian culture that can contribute to development, elements of Mongolian cultural industries including ecological tourism, art, music (e.g. morin khuur, khumi singing, etc.) that can be harnessed to contribute to economic growth and employment, governmental actions to include culture in development policy as well as promote the growth of cultural industries,role of the civil society, the academia, and the media in fostering culture-led development in Mongolia; and other issues. The dialogue will be organized as a panel discussion. The five panelists will be from among youth groups, artists, civil society, Parliament, private sector, aimags, etc to have wide national representation. The panel discussion will be followed by an open exchange of views among participants. Welcoming remarks will be made by Ms Sezin Sinanoglu, the UNDP Resident Coordinator to Mongolia; and concluding remarks will be made by Ms Oyungerel, the Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism.
